In this article, we are going to go over how to outsource your blog writing.
How to Outsource Your Blog Writing
Ultimately, unless you really enjoy and have the time for writing, you will want to look at outsourcing your content creation. Here is how you can go about that:
The Quick Version
1 – Write a few articles yourself
2 – Develop a template
3 – Find a writer or writing service
4 – Give them your template and content strategy
The Complete Version
1 – Write the first 10 articles yourself
10 is an arbitrary number (it could be 5, it could be 30), but I suggest that you write the first articles yourself. This will allow you to:
- Get a real understanding of what goes into a quality post.
- Have examples of posts to show the writers you hire.
- Develop a template that you can give to your writers.
2 – Develop your template
This could be anything from a few simple notes you would like your writers to follow, to a more structured outline of how you would like each post to be written, or even a guide teaching your writers how you would like them to research a post.
You will pair this template with your content strategy to create a great toolbox for your writer to use.
This can evolve and change over time, but the purpose is to give your writer some direction, as opposed to just telling them to “write a post on this,” which usually will not end up how you would like (especially early in the working relationship) because they can’t read your mind.
3 – Find a writer or writing service
Now that you have some example posts, your template, and your content strategy, you are ready to hire a writer or a writing service.
There are quite a few ways to do this and you will usually need to try a few to find a solution that works best for you. Here are some writing services that you can explore:
Naturally, we had to put ourselves here (and we would love for you to give us a try). We offer two services, both a standard writing service and a service to help you find amazing freelancer writers :
1 – A standard writing service where you select the article length, give us some information on the article and then our team creates the article.
2 – We can help find a writer for you. We perform an extensive search and find qualified writers in your niche and provide you with writing samples.
There are many different writing services and they each have varying levels of quality. The general rule of thumb: You get what you pay for.
I typically would lean towards a freelancer over a writing service (especially some of the lower quality ones), because if you put the time into finding a good freelancer, you will typically be happier with the result. But, writing services do have their benefits, as they are oftentimes budget-friendly and usually make it quite easy to order content.
Here are five that we wanted to highlight that range from less expensive to more expensive.
You can use Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, or the HireaWriter subreddit to find freelance writers.
This can be a little bit of a crapshoot and you may have to try a couple out, but if you are persistent (or lucky) you can walk away with some great writers and competitive rates from here.
One other bonus of a freelancer is that you can have them post your blogs directly to your website, removing one more step that you need to take in this process.
4 – Bring together your writer, content strategy, and template
At this point, you should have all of the pieces you need to outsource your content creation. Once you decide on a freelancer or writing service, send over your content strategy, template, and examples and let them go to work!
Outsourcing your blog writing is something that I would highly encourage. I have talked to many, many business owners who say they are going to do it themselves and maybe get a couple of articles up and then stop because they get busy (rightfully so) with other things.
To really go after an SEO campaign, you are going to want to have a continuous flow of content and the best way to ensure that happens is by setting up a system for it that you can let run on it’s own.
